WRITING AN ESSAY IN MLA FORMAT

 MLA (Modern Language Association) style is a commonly used format for writing papers in the humanities. In an MLA-formatted essay, the title of a book should appear in italics, with all major words capitalized. The title of a article, on the other hand, should be placed in quotation marks.

Here are some general guidelines for formatting an essay in MLA style:

1. Use a standard 12-point font, such as Times New Roman or Arial, and double-space your text.

2. Include a page header at the top of every page. This should include your last name and the page number.

3. Indent the first line of each paragraph half an inch from the left margin.

4. Use a left-aligned margin, and align your text to the left margin as well.

5. Include a works cited page at the end of your essay, listing all sources you used in alphabetical order by the author's last name.

Here is an example of an essay written in MLA format:

```
Title of Essay
Your Name
Class or Course Name
Instructor's Name
Date
The title of your essay should be centered and should appear under the heading information on the first page. It should be double-spaced from the text of the essay.
The first paragraph of your essay should introduce the main topic or argument of your essay. It should be a clear, concise statement that provides the reader with a sense of what your essay is about.
The body of your essay should consist of several paragraphs, each one presenting a different point or idea that supports your main argument. Each paragraph should begin with a topic sentence that introduces the main idea of the paragraph. The rest of the paragraph should provide evidence or examples to support the topic sentence.
The conclusion of your essay should summarize the main points of your argument and reinforce the main thesis of your essay. It should be a clear, concise statement that leaves the reader with a sense of closure.
Works Cited
Book Title. Author's First Name Last Name. City of Publication: Publisher, Year of Publication.
Article Title. Author's First Name Last Name. "Title of Journal," Volume Number, Issue Number (Year of Publication): Page Numbers.
```

Remember to use in-text citations whenever you quote or paraphrase a source in your essay, and to include a full citation for each source on your works cited page. If you have any questions about MLA format, you can consult the MLA Handbook, or talk to your instructor.
